Privacy Policy
- Your game progress is saved on your own device.
- If you choose to link Google for cloud saves, your save file is stored in a private app folder in your own Google Drive. The game can't see anything else in your Drive, and it never reads your name or email.
- We collect anonymous gameplay statistics to improve the game, and you can turn them off in Settings.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or ask for your personal information.
Who we are
Oathbound: Chronicle is an independent game made by coffeebeancoder. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, email coffeebeancoder@gmail.com.
1. Game progress (on your device)
Your heroes, legacy, unlocks and settings are stored on your device, in your browser's or the app's local storage. This data isn't sent to us. Deleting the app, or clearing the site's data in your browser, erases it.
2. Cloud saves with Google (optional)
You can choose to link a Google account so your progress is backed up and restored across devices. If you do:
- The game asks Google for one permission only: access to a hidden app data folder in your own Google Drive (
drive.appdata). Your save files are stored there. - The game cannot see your other Drive files, and it doesn't request or read your name, email address, contacts or profile.
- Your save files stay in your Google account. We don't receive a copy.
- If you buy the full game, a random account ID is also kept in that folder (see section 4).
- A sign-in token is kept on your device so the game can reach that folder.
You can unlink at any time from your Google Account's third-party connections page. Google's own privacy policy covers how Google handles your account.
3. Anonymous gameplay statistics
To understand how the game is played, and where it's too hard or too confusing, the game sends anonymous gameplay events to our analytics provider, PostHog (servers in the United States). For example:
- which class you picked and which areas you reached
- where you were defeated, and which bosses you beat
- when you retired a hero or reached Act II
- general device and app information, such as screen size, app version, and whether you're playing on the web, Android or iOS
- when the game hits an error: a short error message and technical trace, so we can fix crashes (see "Error logs" below)
These events are tied to a random ID created on your device, not to your name, email or Google account. We've set PostHog to discard IP addresses, so they aren't stored with your statistics. We don't use this data for advertising, and we don't combine it with other data about you.
You can turn this off at any time in the game's Settings. When it's off, no gameplay statistics are sent.
4. Purchases
If you buy the full game, the payment is handled by the store you buy from: Google Play in the Android app, the App Store in the iPhone app, or Stripe on the website. We never see your card or payment details.
Purchases are checked by RevenueCat, a service that confirms with the store that a purchase happened, so the game can unlock on every device you play on and re-lock if a purchase is refunded. To do that:
- Buying requires linking a Google account (section 2). The game then stores a random account ID in the same hidden app data folder in your Drive, so each of your devices finds the same ID.
- RevenueCat receives that random ID and the purchase record from the store (what was bought, when, and whether it was refunded). It doesn't receive your name, email or Google account details.
Each store's and RevenueCat's own privacy policies cover the data they handle: Google, Apple, Stripe, RevenueCat.
5. Error logs
If the game hits an error, a short technical log is saved on your device to help with troubleshooting. If "Share anonymous stats" is on, a short version of the error (the message and technical trace, with no personal information) is also sent along with the anonymous statistics above, so we can find and fix crashes. Turning that setting off stops it.
6. Website hosting
Like any website, the server that delivers the game may keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses and browser type, to keep the service running and secure.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your data.
- We don't show ads or use advertising trackers.
- We don't share data with anyone except the services named above, which help run the game.
Children
The game isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your choices and deleting your data
- Gameplay statistics: turn them off in Settings. To have past statistics deleted, email us.
- Cloud saves: unlink Google (see section 2). The save files are in your own Drive's app data, which you can remove by deleting the app's data in Google Drive's settings.
- Everything on your device: uninstall the app or clear the site's data.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the game.
